Memorial Scholarship

The James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund's 2008-2009 scholarship for high school seniors is now underway. This scholarship is for high school seniors graduating in 2008. The applicant must be the child or grandchild of a Teamster member with at least 12 months good standing. The member cannot have been a full time elected officer within the 12-months preceding the scholarship application deadline of March 30, 2008. The student must plan to attend a four-year accredited institution in the fall of 2008.

The James R Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund is an independent organization established and registered as a tax exempt entity under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. The Fund is established solely to provide scholarships to the children and dependents of members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and contributions to the Fund are deductible as charitable contributions to the extent permitted by law. The International Union provides certain in kind services to the Fund, such as this portion of the Union web site, in order to benefit members and their children and dependents.

Teamster Higher Education
Loan Program (HELP)

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters has added the Teamster Higher Education Loan Program (HELP) to its Teamster Privilege Benefits program to help members finance a college education for their children.

HELP offers education financing for Teamster families with a combination of low interest rates, federal loan programs, and flexible private loan programs.

Help is offered through a partnership between the IBT and Student Loan Xpress. Student Loan Xpress, a CIT company, is a national lender of federal Stafford, PLUS and consolidation loans, as well as private loans. Through Student Loan Xpress, students can learn more about financial aid, student loans, and paying for college. They can also learn about student loan repayment options, interest rates, and borrower benefits.
